The Gate of Heavenly Peace faces Tiananmen Square. Although Mao is now openly criticized, his portrait still hangs over the central door of the gate's five doors. Above Mao's portrait you can see the rostrum where the rulers of China (Mao among them)appear to view troops and address assembled crowds. Seven parallel bridges lead over a small stream to the gate itself. The Forbidden City lies through a park behind The Gate of Heavenly Peace.
