The daily flag ceremony is very popular. At sunset it is timed so the flag reaches the bottom of the pole precisely at the moment the sun sets. Simultaneously all the lights around Tiananman Square illuminate. The ceremony is performed by showy goose-steping troops and is very cool. The same ceremony is performed in reverse each morning.
