As we saw earlier in Shanghai, the Chinese love rock gardens, so it comes as no surprise that the Imperial Gardens feature many large rocks, which might have religious significance as well. The Imperial Gardens are at the North Entrance of the Forbidden City and contrast nicely with the monumental approach at the South Entrance. Chinese formal gardens are as different from European formal gardens as one could imagine.
