The Gui (Ghosts or Demons) of Fengdu







Large statues of hideous demons line the stairs up the mountain. Here are a couple of examples. I include the picture of myself for you to see the scale of the statues ;-) (Also to amuse my grandchildren.) The demon depicted in this statue is carving the Chinese character for Gui (demon) on the hapless sinner's thigh. Sorry, but I have no idea what the other statue is supposed to depict. Pretty fierce, though!
