Gezhou Dam is another piece of the massive Three Gorges Dam project. It was completed in 1988. I think the purpose was to tame the Yangtze River sufficiently to start construction on the even bigger Three Gorges Dam. We had to go through the lock at Gezhou to reach our final destination in Yichang.
